Principal Tuba, The Florida Orchestra

About

Having been praised as a “a formidable virtuoso” and his performance described as “a very flamboyant, colorful thing”, TJ Graf is the Principal Tuba of The Florida Orchestra. He was appointed to this position in June 2019 at the age of 21. TJ will also be joining the faculty of the University of Central Florida as Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium in 2022. 

Graf has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Utah Symphony, the brass of the Sarasota Orchestra and New World Symphony, and served as Principal Tuba of the Aspen Festival Orchestra. Prior to joining The Florida Orchestra, TJ was a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. He has been a consistent finalist and prizewinner in international solo and chamber music competitions.

TJ’s teachers include Dr. Aaron Tindall, Warren Deck, Derek Fenstermacher, Paul Scott, and Jeffrey Conrad.

TJ is a Buffet Group Performing Artist and performs on Melton Meinl Weston models 2165, 45SLP, and 4450.

Teaching

TJ is Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Central Florida. In addition to teaching at UCF, TJ also teaches private tuba and euphonium lessons for musicians of all levels in the Tampa Bay area.
